What is a process server?

A process is a legal document that requires a party recipient to be brought under the jurisdiction of a court or body. A process provides notice of a claim or cause whereas the party recipient has an obligation to respond once served. A process server delivers the process and returns a court document called return of service notifying the court the process has been delivered. With that return of service the court moves forward to secure its jurisdiction or decide the jurisdictional question over the recipient.
